Purpose: Educational
Team Size: Solo
Role/s: Everything
Development Time: 10 Weeks
This is a solo project made over 10 weeks for university at Savannah College of Art and Design. My goal with this project was to make the Atrium of a roman villa featuring a statue/fountain in a semi-realistic style.
The modelling and UV unwrapping for this scene were done in Maya and 3DS Max. Texturing was done using Substance Painter and Designer. This was my first 3D art project where I really made a large step in the quality of my texturing, to not have everything look flat or disjointed.
One of the issues I ran into and was able to learn from was choosing to make the ceiling modular, which caused a few lighting/shadow issues. I tried to combat this by making the materials 2 faced and to cast shadows, but some seams and dark spots are still visible. In the future I would get around this by joining the objects after planning out the scene or placing an object to block the light inside the ceiling.
